The Birthday Dress!

…OK and it was also my Christmas dress.  ‘Cause preggo don’t need two fancy dresses (this is the Midwest after all).

I’m a little late on posting this.  JUST A TAD.  Took these photos on my birthday, which was FOUR weeks ago.  The bump seemed giant then and continues on its quest for world domination.

Maternity Plans

Thanks for your kind words on my dress!  Another month has flown by, and I thought it was high time that I shared my plans for maternity sewing.

I don’t plan to go too crazy, since I’m almost six months pregnant (whoa…when did that happen?) and there’ll be limited longevity to these garments, but there are still a few things on my list before I start sewing for Ms. Baby!

I made one of these when I was pregnant with Cheeks and really liked it, and also recently made a long sleeved Christmas version (matching family PJs:  the guys each got one, too!).  This particular iteration will be in a mint thermal wool jersey that I recently picked up from Fabric Mart (which was a bit hard to photograph):

I made a dress! And I’m working on a another big project!

Holy crap, people.

*tap tap.  Tap tap tap*

Is this thing on?

It’s been quite a while since I last posted.  Might as well start where we left off:

  •  Thanks all for your comments and commiseration on this offensive situation.  I ended up doing nothing more than publicly shaming the offenders, but it was cathartic and helped me to move on.
  • We bought a new house!  And moved into it.  And I still can’t find my damn Winter coats.  It’s almost December in Wisconsin, so you’d think that’d be a really big problem except…
  • I don’t think those coats were gonna fit this year anyway ’cause we’re expecting baby #2 this Spring!  Wheeeee.  Now that I’m past the first trimester surprise pukes I can finally get on with gads of maternity and baby sewing.  Plus some things for Cheeks, of course.
  • I decided to make a Facebook page as a blog accompaniment!  For those bits and bobs that don’t deserve a whole post.  Kind of anti-climactic after that last bullet point, eh?

And with that all said…onto the belleh.

This dress is a great one:  it’s Simplicity 1469, and is great for both mamas-to-be and mamas-to-new-babies because it has both belly room AND nursing access.  Win-win!  The Simplicity version is out-of-print now, but never fear:  it was a reissue of Megan Nielsen’s Amber dress and top. Shame On You, Girl Charlee

I wish I weren’t writing this unapologetic tale of betrayal, copyright violation and flippance.  But, here I am.  I let it steep for about a week before writing this, spurred on by a really excellent post on the topic by Sewing With Sarah.

At the end of June, I got a kind email from a new follower of my blog, Renee (*waves* Hi Renee!) who asked which pattern I’d used to make the tunic on Girl Charlee with the purple and gray fabric?

I immediately knew exactly what she was talking about, but was also really confused.  On Girl Charlee?  I have sent photos in here and there for their monthly contest, but not in a very long time, and definitely not since I’d made my Love Notions Whister Tunic.  So, I gave her the pattern info and asked where she’d seen it.

She saw it on the product page for the fabric I’d used.  A purple and gray tie dyed french terry.

I wasn’t sure how to react at first.  I hadn’t sent this photo to Girl Charlee.  I had posted a cropped version on my Instagram page, which I’d tagged them in.  Girl Charlee left a nice compliment on the photo when I posted it months ago, but didn’t ask to use it for marketing purposes.  They DID, however, go directly to my blog to obtain the original photo shown.
